Dieting, weight loss treatments, and aesthetic surgeries and procedures have been marketed at women for hundreds of years. Whether it was about fitting into a corset or a flapper dress, or mini skirts and skinny jeans, it’s no secret that weight loss treatments have long been a women’s game.
However, women aren’t the only ones who care about staying in shape, or who care about looking trim. In fact, statistics show that gym memberships are split about 50/50 between men and women, but that men are much more likely to stick it out, with 14% of women and 8% of men dropping out within the first year.
It’s becoming more and more okay to care about how you look and really take care of yourself as a guy. Fat freezing has become very popular with men as a way of body contouring and targeting stubborn pockets of fat that are tricky to reduce with just a good diet and exercise. Many men are targeting their hips and love handles specifically as these are notoriously difficult to shift, but the treatment is just as versatile for men as it is for women.
Fat freezing can be used on really any small fatty areas for men and women alike, like the stomach, back, thighs, arms, and chin. For men it can also be used on the chest to get rid of unwanted pockets of fat.
How does Fat Freezing work?
Fat freezing, otherwise called cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive procedure which triggers the natural process by which cells die and are disposed of. True to its name, it involves the freezing of fat cells (without ever breaking the skin). When fat cells freeze, they die and your body gets rid of them naturally through sweat and waste.
The treatments themselves are painless – although maybe a bit chilly – and only take about 45 minutes per procedure. We’d normally recommend at least a couple of treatments for the desired effect, plus a consultation beforehand and some bespoke aftercare.
The treatments consist of the treatment area being covered with a gel pad and cooled by an applicator until the fat cells begin to freeze. Fat freezes at higher temperatures than water so parts of your body won’t be frozen solid, but may feel very cold until they go numb.
How long will it take to see results?
As said, a few appointments are necessary and results will vary from person to person and treatment to treatment. However many people do see results right away, and visible improvements over a 12 week period.
Unlike liposuction, fat freezing isn’t an instant fix and there are limits to its ability. The treatment destroys your cells but your body still has to dispose of them naturally, and this takes time. It’s also not a treatment that will be effective on large amounts of fat, as the results won’t be worth your money. The ideal candidate for fat freezing treatments is someone who exercises regularly and eats sensibly and just wants to rid themselves of stubborn fat pockets and sculpt their body a certain way.
The results are permanent, and if paired with a healthy diet and exercise then the fat cells won’t regrow. It’s important to remember that fat freezing doesn’t stop you from regaining new weight in the future, so a healthy lifestyle is essential for your results to be long lasting.
