Fat freezing fads are always subject to questions and anxiety around the safety of the procedures. The good news is that fat freezing isn’t a fad: it’s an FDA approved procedure based on speeding up the body’s natural cell production processes.
The main draw of fat freezing for most patients is that it’s non-invasive and non-surgical, with no recovery time needed afterwards. It’s known as a lunch break procedure because, as the skin barrier is not compromised and there’s no need for an anaesthetic, you can go right on back to work afterwards.
Is fat freezing safe?
The thought of the procedure itself may seem a little bizarre, and we’ll admit that the phrase itself might sound a bit daunting. The best thing about fat freezing is that it just triggers and accelerates the natural process of apoptosis – which is simply when fat cells die and are disposed of.
Whilst it’s natural to be apprehensive about undertaking even an uninvasive procedure, fat freezing is very safe when done in a clinic. All treatments are completed by trained professionals who understand the process and the machines they are using, and who are always happy to help you with any concerns. Here at Nu You Aesthetics, we take pride in taking care of you every step of the way, from your pre-treatment consult to your bespoke aftercare intended to help make sure you get the best results possible.
It’s important to note that, whilst fat freezing is a non-surgical procedure, it’s still not something you should try to undertake at home, and could result in severe pain or worrying side effects if attempted.
Are there side effects to fat freezing?
There are almost no negative side effects associated with fat freezing. In fact, anything beyond occasional slight bruising, minor swelling and sensitivity for a few days after treatment are all but unheard of unless you attempt the procedure at home. It’s definitely not a case of ‘the colder, the better’ with fat freezing, and it’s this attitude that can lead to the very rare tales of frostbite burns from trying too hard at home to reach sub-zero temperatures.
In most cases, fat freezing doesn’t even cause pain. The nature of the sub-zero temperature and the suction means you can expect to feel a stretching or tugging sensation at the treatment site, as well as obviously being a little cold. These feelings will be quickly replaced by a numb sensation, so you won’t feel a thing!
The treatment site will feel a little chilly directly after the procedure, but as fat doesn’t need to be as cold as water to freeze, your skin won’t be left frozen solid. It’ll be pretty pink and might feel like you’ve just emerged from a walk-in fridge, but this will be gone after an hour or so.
